Indonesia
COUNTRY OVERVIEW AND PROJECT BACKGROUND
With a population of approximately 200 million people, the country faces serious health risks, including high rates of TB and malaria, increasing health risks among youth (HIV/AIDS, smoking) and lack of handwashing to prevent high child morbidity and mortality rates. By embracing a new approach towards health issues, focusing more on prevention and health promotion, Indonesia has seen a major paradigm shift in its health sector. Although formed by non-governmental members, KuIS (Koalisi Untuk Indonesia Sehat) translated (Coalition for Healthy Indonesia) has proven to play a major role in this new focus.
