Building National and Local Leadership in HIV and AIDS Behavior Change Communication (BCC)

Overview and Description
In collaboration with the National Action Committee on AIDS (NACA) which coordinates the multi-sectoral response on HIV/AIDS nationwide and other implementing partners, HCP led the development of a 5-year national BCC strategy for HIV/AIDS for Nigeria. HCP also provided technical assistance to NACA, serving as chairman of the NACA BCC committee, facilitating training workshops, and providing feedback on BCC materials. HCP also provided technical assistance to State-level HIV/AIDS committees and worked with NACA to provide HIV/AIDS information to 400 Director-Generals, Directors and Deputy Directors of Federal Ministries and parastatals.

Audience
The BCC strategy identifies five priority audiences:
- Youth;
- High risk behavior or most at risk people (MARPs);
- People Living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHAs);
- Health care providers; and
- Men and women of reproductive age (24 – 49 years old).
