Combating HIV/AIDS by Changing Social Norms: the Coercion-Free Communities Model
Activity Dates
2006-2007
Activity Summary
The Coercion-Free Communities Model (CFC) is a collaboration between HCP and the Ethiopian Interfaith Forum for Development, Dialogue and Action (EIFDDA), to promote interfaith involvement in HIV/AIDS activities to fight stigma, denial and discrimination. This one-year pilot project aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of building religious leaders' capacity to mobilize communities through grassroots interfaith collaborations to overcome stigma, denial and discrimination. HCP trains religious leaders as well as influential members of parish who form the Kebele (smallest administrative level) Action Committees (KACs) in the creation of action plans to mobilize their congregations and communities through HIV and stigma awareness raising activities and events. The program aims to achieve increased community awareness on stigma, denial and discrimination, increased care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS, and stimulate new interfaith partnerships between religious communities in HCP's targeted Woredas (mid-size administrative level).
