INTRODUCTION

InterviewingThe Communication Science & Research Unit draws on the collective expertise of 12 doctoral level researchers trained in behavior change communication, sociology, counseling, demography, international health, social psychology, education and anthropology, as well as an extensive variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods. They work closely with an extensive network of health researchers, academics, and practitioners worldwide to achieve and maintain a high degree of scientific rigor in health communication research and practice.

The Communication Science & Research Unit of HCP is responsible for

Pretesting
  • providing research support as needed during all phases of program design, implementation and evaluation;
  • identifying and promoting the use of evidence-based models, tools, and approaches for effective health communication;
  • developing the capacity of partners and counterparts around the world to design and carry out health communication research that meets international standards of quality and rigor;
  • providing global leadership in the development and testing of health communication theory and research methods; and
  • advancing health communication science worldwide.

In the past year the CS&R staff have published 29 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters.

RESEARCH TOOLS DATABASE

HCP researchers employ a variety of approaches for collecting data to inform program activities and evaluate their effectiveness. These approaches range from large population-based surveys to smaller focused activities that collect in-depth information on a specific topic. Gathered here are research tools developed and used by organizations and researchers from around the world.
